Police: Chicago baby killed with single gunshot

A Chicago baby who was killed when someone fired on her father's minivan last week was shot once, not multiple times as previously reported, police said Tuesday.

Chicago police spokesman Adam Collins also said the father was not changing 6-month-old Jonylah Watkins' diaper when she was shot as previously reported, but rather that the baby was simply on her father's lap in the vehicle.

And Jonylah's mother wasn't shot in the leg while she was pregnant with Jonylah as some news accounts had said, according to Collins.

    What a beautiful, happy baby! It is sickening that she was killed because she was surrounded by humans with contempt for life.

    We need more guns. If that baby had been armed, this never would have happened.

    What does it matter if the baby was shot once or multiple times ? She's still gone.

    Here's some math for you all.

    If there are guns in circulation, legally acquired or not, a certain percentage of those guns will end up in the hands of criminals.

    If you increase the number of guns in circulation, this will proportionally increase the numbers of guns in the hands of criminals.

    If you severely decrease the number of guns in circulation, this will severely decrease the numbers of guns in the hands of criminals.

    This does not even take into account tightening up background checks to make it even more difficult for criminals to get guns, background checks that the NRA has been consistently against.

      Australia banned guns all together. And guess what happened? Crime skyrocketed

      @Shiela, incorrect.

      I could argue with you, but I find it better to encourage other people on the internet to do a little research on their own. Don't just rely on that fake "Aussie cop" email that has made the rounds. I've seen that one too. Start with snopes, they wrote a good summary. But don't stop there. Pull up the Australian goverment's own crime stats. Violent crime rates are largely unchanged since the 1997 laws, slightly lower in fact.

      Dang bombo! You provide a good insight. I appreciate that. But this is America, not Canada.

      Because all of Chicago's pre-existing, highly-enforced gun laws (literally the strictest in the country) have totally prevented violent crime.

      It's weird... it's like criminals and psychopaths just aren't obeying all of these laws. XD

      Also, your math is flawed: Honduras statistically has a relatively low amount of firearms in the country yet has one of the world's highest rates of gun-related homicide. Less firearms does not always equate to less firearms-caused deaths.

    When will Chicago's Police Dept. and Mayor realize that they need to bring in the Feds as they did in the 70's. The Police Dept. are not capable of handling this problem with the Gangs!
