Rescuers try to save two young children buried

Rescue workers feverishly tried to free two young children who were trapped underground in a North Carolina home construction site Sunday night, sometimes digging in the dirt with bare hands.

But they were unsuccessful, and early Monday morning, their efforts had moved from search-and-resue to recovery.

The children, a 6-year-old girl and a 7-year-old girl, were buried underground at the construction site in Lincoln County about 6 p.m., authorities said.

    This is horrible.
It was unnecessary: what were girls aged six and seven doing at a construction site? Who was watching them?

"No, don't go anywhere near there. You might get hurt. You can watch it from here."

tragic story about children losing their life doing things we all did when we were children.

This is an assumption on the rescuers part, miracles can happen!

Just irresponsible parents letting kids that young go to a construction site to play..And now they have to go to a grave site to mourn because of their incompetence..Parents have to remember that's its more about keeping a tight reign on kids today because theres so much more out there to get them into trouble or hurt with..Just remember parents its not all over after birth and your jobs still there with these kids till well after they leave the nest and responsible ones know it..My condolences go out to the the little ones parents, relatives because they'll blame themselves for this tragic mishap for years to come and rightly so they deserve it!!

Oh @ Pete, you dont know that. Dont be so quick to judge. Just as Mary said, weve all done similar things. How many times were you doing something as a child', that you knew your parents wouldnt allow so you managed to slip away?

    @ Pete and I agree.
Everybody should know the opera THE MEDIUM. At a seance the grieving mother says that she only turned her attention away for a minute.

I know of no parents who would condone their child playing at a construction site.

    This is sad.

@banasy,you wouldn't condone your kids playing at a construction site and have you any to condone if I may ask!!I told my two sons no motorcycles in my house and after my wife and I got divorced she let my youngest now 25 get one..Now 6 years later and many operations and facilities to take care of him besides me being there almost 24/7 and he'll never be the same again you can see my response to your just written post.If I say something when I was married it was written in stone ,no ifs ans or buts period..But as usual some people just can't say" NO"but I can and now everyone in my family has to suffer for someone's incompetence thinking they were just being a cool parent ..Just remember my son graduating a year early from high school and was about to be one of the youngest managers in the Publix store chain at 19 and now only a kid aways depending on someone for his everyday care...Try it sometime banasy and you'll see my side of this sad story I'm living every day,but with Gods help and mine as well we'll have many good years together something I wouldn't trade for anything or anybody ...Thanks again, take care....
