Washington (CNN) - United Airlines plans to resume flying the 787 Dreamliner in May, the carrier told CNN in anticipation of regulatory approval of Boeing's remedy for battery problems that forced the jetliner's worldwide grounding.
United, the only U.S. airline that flies the 787, said it was in the process of formulating its plans to resume Dreamliner service. It will fly the plane on both domestic and international routes.
Boeing modified the 787's lithium-ion battery system after fires in Boston and in Japan prompted aviation authorities globally to ground it in January. The Federal Aviation Administration must sign off on the redesign.
Lithium-Ion problem or just a poor fusing and circuit breaker protection? You don't simply blow a 300 megawatt generator and catch it on fire at your local power company, because there are breakers and fuses to keep that from happening. I guess who really cares, you can always walk...
I'm appalled at your lack of understanding concerning the use and purpose of these batteries be they lithium ion or use other electrolytes. The lithium ion batteries anomalies were basically overheating internally, but had no impact to the aircraft's electrical system because of the safeguards you cited!
Who can afford to fly any way? And where is there to go?? Geez, people.
I've said that I won't fly on a 787 Dreamliner for years, to be sure. However, when I started travelling for work in 1960, I didn't want to fly Lockheed Electras, and I found myself on them all the time...laughing with liquor.
Can't wait for United to feature the Boeing 807, featuring a full service strip mall and first class king size water beds.
In June, I'm driving my Toyota Prius with the sticking gas pedal, to the airport to take a 787, to take a Carnival cruise. I'm also making out my Will, way ahead of this vacation.
