Two years of rescue efforts could not save them. So, Tuesday, Auburn University will remove two iconic trees that a disappointed fan of its inner-state rival poisoned, after his team lost a game to Auburn.
The landmark live oaks, used for celebrations by fans, who rolled them with toilet paper after big victories, were over 130 years old. The Auburn oaks will disappear from the campus gathering place, Toomer's Corner, at 7 a.m. CT.
Local television news cameras will broadcast the removal live.

Two strands of DNA were walking down the street. One says to the other, "Do these genes make me look fat?
So unimaginably senseless
Alabama annd Auburn have a fierce football rivalry in this state. People here are bitterly divded between the two and take it very seriously. When Auburn won that year, this individual decided he would teach them a lesson by poisoning those beautiful trees that have been there for generations. It is really sad. And he is obviously still very proud of what he did, as he was on TV last night still bragging that they were going to die. They've done everything in their power to save these trees, to no avail. So now they have to remove them. Very sad.
Seriously? Bragging?? What a tool.
Poisoning trees is on par with kicking puppies. Alabama alumni and fans should hang their heads in disgrace, if they had a shred of conscience and shame. I say "should" since realistically few will. If you've ever met them, you know what I mean. They're easily recognizable as they repeatedly shriek, "Roll, tide!" while salivating and defecating involuntarily.
Why Dr. Kermit Gosnell's Trial Should Be a Front-Page Story
The dead babies. The exploited women. The racism. The numerous governmental failures. It is thoroughly newsworthy.
And these poisoned oaks are MORE newsworthly ?
Ma'am: Those trees are innocent victims. While you say "dead babies" in an obvious attempt at emotional appeal, these were women knowingly and intelligently exercising free will over their bodies. Their body, their choice. The unwanted fetus is not part of that decision-making cycle.
@ Doctor, You may want to read the story first...
These babies where over 24 weeks
When you perform late-term "abortions" by inducing labor, you get babies. Live, breathing, squirming babies.
...and they can show the graphic atrocities of the boston bombings...but the gosnell little shop of horrors of the abortion industry graphics gets suppressed...i hope obama realized the face of abortion healthcare policies wears the face of kermitgosnell and the face of every victim of abortion...and of course obama's face. these are crimes against humanity...people will look back on these times as barbaric!
Way too depressing to read that stuff @ Mary and @ Rascal. I did try the other day it made me ill to my stomach.
but that is the TRUE FACE of abortion...something needs to be done about eradicating this abomination from from our laws and society...
we don't even do this animals...how many zoo abortions are performed...so sad....that a human baby has less rights than a caged animal...wake up people!
These trees were not a real danger. 130 years gone. Really sad.
"Pennsylvania is not a third-world country. There were several oversight agencies
that stumbled upon and should have shut down Kermit Gosnell long ago. But none of them did..."
Yes RR, excellent point
@ chrissy, It maybe hard but everyone needs to look at what happens when a womens right to do what she wants with her own body... take a good long hard look chrissy

Yes, Jeramy, and this is a breaking news story site. Many people do not get that, apparently.
The medical examiner of Delaware County informed the department that Gosnell had performed an illegal abortion on a 14-year-old girl carrying a 30-week-old baby.
Inducing live births and subsequently severing the heads of the babies is indeed a horrific story that merits significant attention.
