After turning 50 years old, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie secretly underwent lap-band surgery in February for the sake of his wife and kids, a source close to the governor confirmed to CNN.
Christie (pictured) told the New York Post, which first reported the story, that the invasive procedure came after his family and friends urged him to start improving his health.
"I've struggled with this issue for 20 years," he said. "For me, this is about turning 50 and looking at my children and wanting to be there for them."

My sister-in-law IS DEAD from weight loss surgery.
Yes. Any surgery at all carries risk.
Why is this news?
He'll have to tweak his diet, no matter how much surgery! He should have a talk w/Carnie Wilson!!
lol...
how can anyone condone this procedure...it doesn't fix the behavioral gottah eat part...there's malabsorptional problems of nutrients, cramping...and rooker's diarrhea: the kind where you go on thyself...betcha the rubber band stomach can't tolerate greasy foods either...
When all else fails.....It's time for a drastic medical intervention .It's reversible and if successful may just save his life!
maybe if gov christie did more lap-dance rather than lap-band he would lose some weight...i sure those dollars would come in handy for his presidential campaign...lol

thanks Mary.and also, I would have to agree with Banasy, she is right, there is risk with any time you have to go under general anaesthesia.
I was using dictation, and it kinda made it a run on sentence. But if it's any consolation to you Mary, yes, you made no reference to Banasys comment.
