First came the pain - a decade of torture, torment and terror for three captive women and one of their young daughters.
Now comes the prosecution and - if there's a conviction - punishment for the man accused of being responsible for their hell.
Ariel Castro appeared silently in court Thursday, his head down, as he was arraigned on four counts of kidnapping and three counts of rape, accused of holding the women captive in his Cleveland home. Cleveland Municipal Court Judge Lauren Moore ordered Castro held on $8 million bond - $2 million for each of the three women and the child born to Amanda Berry before they were freed Monday evening.
Hours later, the top prosecutor in Cuyahoga County, Ohio, announced he'd press for more charges - "for each and every act of sexual violence ... each day of kidnapping, every felonious assault (and) all his attempted murders."
Furthermore, Prosecutor Timothy McGinty said he'd try to persuade a grand jury to indict the 52-year-old Castro for "aggravated murder" for the termination of his captives' pregnancies. He cited a state law that a person can be charged with murder - a conviction that could lead to the death penalty in Ohio - for killing unborn children.

This is why crazy people must be removed from society. A good evaluation / background check / psych interviews would have shown this misogynistic filth for what he is. Such people should be removed from society. The GOP is filled with em.
You are part of the 80/80, nothing more than a low information voter.
This babydaddy has MORE rights than the dead babies that he was worried would give away his "dirty little secrets". He has MORE rights than you do.
This babydaddy should be sprung cause we should not be racial profilers.
True Jeff. But this goes on world wide everyday. We just are not aware of who? Or how many?
Hope these women recover emotionally. So sad.
I agree Jeff.
Reports say that after he found out the woman was pregnant, he would starve them for weeks and punch them in the abdomen, and this is where the murder charge would enter into the picture.
What my wife said. Horrible story from the getgo.
So I guess CNN isn't going to report on the Bengahzi cover up. Just goes to show how left sided and politically biased CNN is. Obama should be impeached, Hillary should be on trial for tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice and CNN talks about how qualified she is to run for president in 2016. Hillary isn't qualified to run a fast food restaurant much less the United States.
Sir......you have a one track mind that has obviously derailed.
A completely inappropriate comment on a blog thread like this. Take it elsewhere. I hope Ohio has the death penalty so this savage can go quickly to Hell!
There are probably thousands abnormals out there practicing their brand of deviant lifestyle. Authorities tend to ignore or look the other way in grossly cruel cases like this primarily because things "seemed" so "normal". Parents or parental posers have a right to raise their "kids" as they see fit...."Without big brother" watching some would say....Pity the children ...who grow up in such an environment...Who will make them whole?
It is truly beyond my comprehension why some individuals, despite their unfavorable views of some sites, still come to these said unfavorable sites to spew their venomous rhetoric. Is it possible that said indvidual is ignored on other sites ?
It seems that it should be mentioned on the show that not only did the Cleveland Police ignore the report by the 2 brothers that saw Gina Dejesus go into Ariel Castro's car (they had the license plate number), but why didn't the police go back and speak to Gina's best friend (Ariel's father) and her mother to find out if there have been any issues of concern in their family and the go to Amanda's work at Burger King and speak to all the other employees-how easy it would have been to see that there was a connection between the 2 girls –Amanda worked with the son of Ariel Castro and Gina's best friend was the daughter of Ariel Castro. An good detective would not have had to dig very hard to find that out. I am also horrified at the neighbor whose daughter saw a naked woman crawling in the backyard and Ariel Castro yelling at her to "stay down"–how could they not call the police? And when a neighbor heard screaming and the police only came and knocked on Castro's door–why not call again or advise other neighbors for the safety of the neighborhood? And lastly the 2 brothers who saw the girl get taken by Ariel Castro–even when the police ignored their report–why not go to one of the vigils and tell the family?
At the end of the day, the police are not CSI, SVU–they are often overworked and undereducated government workers who do not always have the passion that we have as parents, neighbors, etc. If there is anything that will come out of this–we have to not depend on law enforcement to "figure out" –we must advocate for those in need and never ever give up -Gina and Amanda's mothers should be praised for their never giving up and continuing to have vigils and get the word out. But the neighbors and those brothers who saw it happen and now are confirming what she was wearing and it was Ariel Castro–how can they live each day with that knowledge without doing the right thing and sharing it with someone else–even John Walsh–America's Most Wanted. Lastly, I think we need to create a National 24/7 Hotline for people to give tips without being questioned or judged by the police.
So where is the CNN story, that the entire "Cleveland Police Dept Fired". Unbelievable how they botched this case....multiple times.
It would not be wrong to say that for the unimaginable hell these poor victims went thru at the hands of fellow humans this society shares the culpability.
This case is neither one of its kind or an eye opener. Rape, incarceration, torture, murder & abuse of females, the stats are shameful.
If one looks at the stats on murder, torture, incarceration and abuse of females , which is seldom publicly debated, on our soil it would make one wonder.
That is correct @ saywhat but in most cases of female abuse others ARE aware of those women so someone generally intervenes eventually. Ussually another family member. In this case NO ONE KNEW these women/girls were even there.
I do find it very hard to believe that people came and went many times over the course of 10 years and never suspected something was amiss though. I think some did and never said or did anything about it. Especially those that were there several times.
