Christie: Special election to fill Senate seat

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie called for a special election this year to replace Frank Lautenberg, the longtime Democratic senator who died early Monday.

Christie set the primary date as August 13, and said a general election vote will be held October 16. He'll name an interim senator by next week to serve until the special election.

"We must allow our citizens to have their say," Christie said, noting the time between now and the 2014 election would have been too long for an unelected replacement to hold the seat.

Is this the picture CNN will use for Christie from now on.

    He looks angry.

    Or hungry.

I think hamsta should fill that position. He is distinguished, has great ideas, is a moderate socialist, got educated from the school of hard knox and will help make the great state of new jersey even better.

Gov Christie is courting the swing centrist voters who decided the 2012 presidential election and probably will decide in 2016 as well. Wise long-term political move for himself and the GOP.

      Not me. Having fun, JR?

Christie swore in 2009 that he would not hold a special election should this senator die; he didn't want to cost the tax payers that much money. Why couldn't this election have taken place in the general election, only three weeks later? Hmmm.

I agree @ rupert, and it will keep him busy. Plus he would learn how to really talk to people and not over them.

"We must allow our citizens to have their say," Christie said. Kinda the same way the hurricane victims were allowed to get thier lives back?

*This year a major hurricane unlike any storm in recorded history will hit Missisippi.
*The Baltimore Ravens will win the next Super Bowl.
*President Obama will have one major crisis in the Middle East in the month of October, 2013.
This will be his biggest challenge and will help define his presidency.
