The Zimmerman trial: What you need to know

Opening statements begin Monday in the trial of George Zimmerman, a neighborhood watch captain accused of fatally shooting 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on February 26, 2012, in Sanford, Florida.

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder. He says he shot the unarmed teen in self-defense.

A jury of six women will decide Zimmerman's fate, which has already drawn some scrutiny from the public about whether he will get a fair trial.

There was a talking dog for sell in florida. A man went to see it. The dog told the man he used to work as a spy for the gov. And in a airport then retired. The man asked the owner how much for the dog. The owner said $5. Why so cheap he asked. The owner answered because the dog is a liar and did not do all those things he said he did.

Good afternoon @ Pete, and as you're already probably aware, im in total agreement with you. And even with all the money from the NRA i think he still ended up with a team of very loopy lawyers! THAT makes me very happy.

Lol thanks @ Pete. And it was pretty much a given that it was racist when Zimmermans family stated publicly on his behalf that "he knew that the black boy, Trayvon, did not belong in that neighborhood. How else would someone take that?

Lol thanks @ Pete. Should be obvious to anyone who knows anything about the NRA that race is playing a part here if they are financially backing Zimmerman.

@chrissy,if Trayvons parents lawyers have any brains it'll be a simple slam dunk with a murder 1 conviction..They can't say with him stalking Trayvon all over the place its self defense and his racist rants to police dispatchers this isn't premeditated,he knew what he was doing..Making the supposid Trayvon out to be a black thug and in killing him being the community hero and possibly a job on a crooked Sarasota police force that has an equally dirty past itself!!Facts be known the exchiefs son years ago beat a street bum to death in front of people and the chief tried his damnest to cover it up much like they'd do here if they had their way!!Justice will be served and best while its hot!!

I do not believe Ms. Jeantel, in spite of her court nails. If her father is unsuccessful in his encouraging her to absorb her own phone bill, she claims sixteen at eighteen or nineteen, she skips her true love's funeral, and thinks that the C-word is OK, I don't take her tale seriously. Phone bill? At nineteen, I was playing piano recitals all over this country. Oh, I'm gonna believe her.

I beleive it's education time....the term "cracker " came from the cruel men (plantayion forman) who would sit high on the horse cracking the whip at slaves that were not fast enough in the fields. The term demeans us all, black, white, brown...the human race, just as the n-word does. The media says...as do the youth in our country that these terms when used by our black youth, that it's culture divide. Really? Ms. Jeantel and her generation (regardless of what race) need a history lesson. (This also includes Sunny the legal commentator who claims she has never heard the term).
