Girls injured when bus overturns in Kansas, police say

Children were injured when a school bus overturned in eastern Kansas on Wednesday afternoon, Kansas Highway Patrol spokesman Howard Dickinson said.

The number of children injured and information about the severity of the injuries weren't immediately available after the crash near Bonner Springs.

The bus - carrying 36 girls and a driver - slipped down a hill as it came around a curb and came to rest on its side, Dickinson said.

The crash happened just before 1 p.m. on southbound Kansas Highway 7, CNN affiliate KCTV reported.

Bradley Manning gets 35 years

Bradley Manning, the Army private whose disclosure of hundreds of thousands of U.S. military and diplomatic documents gave American officials a global case of heartburn, was sentenced to more than three decades in prison Wednesday.

A military judge sentenced Manning to 35 years - less than the 60 years prosecutors sought, as well as the 90 years he could have received - minus credit for the about three and a half years he's already been behind bars.

He showed little to no reaction when the judge, Army Col. Denise Lind, sentenced him at Fort Meade, outside Washington. But in a statement read by his attorney afterward, he said he acted "out of a love for my country and a sense of duty," to expose what he said were abuses committed in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

DiMaggio family requests Hannah Anderson DNA

James DiMaggio's family is requesting DNA samples from the family of Hannah Anderson, the 16-year-old girl he's accused of kidnapping and whose mother and brother were found dead in his burned home.

The reason? They want to know if he was the biological father of the children, Hannah and 8-year-old Ethan, the family spokesman said.

"We are going to be requesting from the Anderson family that we try to get DNA samples from Hannah. And if they have anything left from Ethan - that we get a DNA sample," family spokesman Andrew Spanswick told CNN affiliate KGTV. "There has been a lot of rumors that Jim might be the father of either or both children."
