A mother in Montana is outraged that a high school teacher convicted of raping her 14-year-old daughter received only a month in prison - while her daughter took her own life.
"I think this sentence is a joke, a travesty," the mother, Auliea Hanlon, told CNN on Tuesday night, a day after the sentencing.
"People will lose faith in our justice system. I have."

The local newspaper there, has all the details. Please CNN, don't take offense here. America just wants to see justice served.
Hey @ JF, whats the name of that newspaper? If they'll allow you to post it that is?
And nevermind @ JF, i found it. Billings Gazette if anyone else is interested.
The judge's comment that she "seemed older than her age" is ridiculous in light of the fact that she was a student at his school. Is the judge implying that the perp was not aware of her age? I don't think it's too much to ask a judge to pay attention to the evidence.
And @ BOMBO, how about if the judge just follow the LAW? The law states she was a minor. It doesn't state she may not be a minor if she seems mature for her age!
Lol @ BOMBO, Maybe you should move to the states and run for office here? You would be a damn sight better than what we currently have for sure! You would have my vote.
Chrissy: Yeah Billings Gazette. They said with an aire of certainty, this whole fiasco is not over yet.
I don't feel like doing my own research. Maybe someone can answer. Can you appeal for a harsher sentence in the US? Obviously double jeopardy applies to a not guilty verdict, but some countries do have reviews of sentences by appeals courts and can extend sentences.
Don't hold me to this Bombo as I'm far from expert at this, but in the State of Montana, the Montana Supreme Court "serves as" Montana's Appellate Court. Having said that, if in Montana a decision is made to review a case in the lower criminal court, an appeal can be filed with Montanas' Supreme Court to be handled for due process.
Good night. 🙂
P.S. Oh yeah. Lets not forget the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, which includes Montana. Night :O
This is wholly an abomination. This sentence, and the judge who passed it, needs to be revisited.
I am just wondering if this "judge", since he gives light sentences to perps and pediphiles is one himself? With his initial comments in court, it seems he looked at this young lady as "older", offering a response a perpertrator would have offered.
I think our kids have no race, their race is their generation. there is no justice in this rock (or called the earth).
The old man call him as u wish (he is out dated) he live the irone age and he can not jude this case, he should be retired and his mental haelthy is douted because he lives old dreams not american dream1
Obama has to intervent as he did Travon Martin case, this two cases are simliar and the justic is abused and hurted peaceful famillies. this case should go to humain rights court. It is not acceptable such thing to happen in modern world.
If no one does happen the justice we will bring this case in humain court! and both the jude and the crininal will be hunted for ever.
Hoping peace with this child and her familly, we are and we will be with you for your peacefull journy to justic, the whole should be with you, my condolenece.
I would like to know what that judge was thinking. Children rappest should never be
Allowed to be around kids. The judge and the teacher should both hung up by the
Balls and torchered to That child didnt deserve that and no child dose. He should never be allowed to teach again and his but should be in prision. They should also have to pay for that poor child funeral expencives
