Girl raped, kills self; rapist gets 30 days

A mother in Montana is outraged that a high school teacher convicted of raping her 14-year-old daughter received only a month in prison - while her daughter took her own life.

"I think this sentence is a joke, a travesty," the mother, Auliea Hanlon, told CNN on Tuesday night, a day after the sentencing.

"People will lose faith in our justice system. I have."

    As for this article, rape everywhere is an ordeal for the victim after being dehumanized during the act itself. This is an oft repeated story ,yes even in our 'civilized' society. Most we don't even hear about and others would go unreported.
    I do hope this poor girl's family has a legal recourse.

    And @Jeff this is hardly a 'communist' network, its a controlled news network. The likes of Murdoch are as far removed from communism as say a Trump.

      I think the gist of the "communist" jab is that this network is barely news at all. Journalism is objective factual presentation of developing stories. This network, with record low ratings, is more of a confirmation-bias business, feeding it's audience what it wants, thereby favorably depicting leftist or "communist" positions and suppressing facts unfavorable to the pro left narrative. Similarly, this blog's moderator cherry-picks supporting posts and deletes critical posts.

    I don't know all the details of this case. Sometimes court decisions are just, even though they may appear to be unjust from a distant viewpoint.

      It's all about the judge here. He has a long history of going easy on rapists. He has been elected five times and was uncontested in all five races. I think his days are numbered in light of the media attention tho and thank G O D!

      I do not know where in the United States a 30 day sentence for raping a 14 year old girl would ever be considered "just". It isn't. It's barbaric. It's a slap in the face to this poor child's family.

    I looked this up. In Montana. Se_ual int_rco_rse with someone under age 16. Life imprisonment or between two and 100 years. If the victim if under age 16 and the offender is at least three years older, life imprisonment or four to 100 yearsFive years to life in prison.Montana § 45-5-501 et seq..

    Something needs to be done about this judge, who basically stated that the victim looked older than 14 & should've made better choices! A 14 yr old girl can't defend herself from a 48 yr old woman who's preying on her & "grooming" her for s.exual conquest! 30 day's for statutory r.ape, that resulted in this child taking her own life, is a Travesty!!
