A soggy weekend is in store for parts of the U.S. Gulf Coast as Tropical Storm Karen churns in the central Gulf of Mexico.
The National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane watch for the area from Grand Isle, Louisiana, to west of Destin, Florida. The center of the storm is forecast to be near the coast within that area Saturday.
A tropical storm warning is in effect from Grand Isle to the mouth of the Pearl River.

Battin down the hatches @ bobcat and @ hamsta! (the REAL hamsta that is) and best of luck to all.
Yep, here comes one of those minor inconveniences yankees call a superstorm.
Maybe those yankees should spend some time in Louisian and learn to not be dependent on a NANNY STATE.
Thank you chrissy
These systems are so unpredictable we never know when or where until it does. Forecast yesterday called for landfall on Saturday somewhere in our area. Now they say sometime Sunday. Exact direction is also undetermined. The answer my friend is ( literally ) blowing in the wind.
what is it churning? butter?
Your welcome @ bobcat and @ hamsta, you not so much! That was a genuine post i made earlier to you and of course you bein such a disrespectful, unappreciative piece of crap had to be a jerk! Like always!
Latest forecast says storm has dropped to 50 mph from 65 mph and should continue to weaken due to wind shear. Time will tell. This could be no worse than a summer storm. We'll see.
Well thats good news @ bobcat. And yea its almost storm season for us "yankees" too. Ours just happen to be much colder though.
Yes, even after all these years down here, I remember our storms up there very well. Don't mean anything bad, but you can sure have all that cold and snow and ice and sleet, Oh My ! If one has never been there in the winter, they have no idea. So they can blow all the smoke they want. We know better.
I appreciate your concern chrissy, but Obame and his socialist NANNY STATE party is more of a threat to my well being, happiness and liberty than some minor inconvenience that would be renamed Superstorm Karen if it hit Washington D.C.
I'm pretty sure the National Weather Service makes that call, not "yankees". You're very disrespectful of people, and have a poor understanding of atmospheric conditions.
@bobcat and @Hamsta be safe no matter which way this thing blows. Just check in here with your friends who worry.
Lol sorry YOU are so inconvenienced by the actions of the GOTP, @ Hamsta. But im thinkin your little inconvenience is NOTHING compared to those that are working without pay! Particularly those jeopardising their lives as well like our military! As for your other deflamatory remarks, us yankees also have our share of storms btw! They just happen to be alot colder!
It is Obame and his socialist Nazi party closing private owned parks and disrespecting THE GREATEST GENERATION because noone wants Obame's only achievement: a hostile government takeover of the healthcare industry, socialist in nature and known as Obamecare.
Except he didn't. And you know it. Stop using a bunch of WWII heroes as a lame talking point.
For healthcare to be socialist, it would have to be single-payer. IE: the government, like Medicare is. You/your employer still purchases the policy, Hamsta. That's not socialist. Educate yourself.
where's fema when there'sah forlough?
@RR: another unintended consequence of the government shut down that the GOTP couldn't care less about; there isn't any FEMA.
They may have taken that into account when the GOTP decided 6 weeks ago they were going to shut down the Government.
Good, we don't need FEMA.... or the Army Corps of engineers.... or MR. G.O.. As a matter of fact when Obame came to brag about how he saved New Orleans from Isaac, a minimal hurricane, we laughed at him and told him he isn't welcome here, to GO HOME!
Contrary to your popular belief, Louisiana isn't the whole country. Your lack of empathy for others continues to be appalling.
And banasy, you forgot to mention how full of crap Hamsta is too. With his imagination of how things went down, he needs to be writing conspiracy novels.
His words pretty much speak for themself, Rawr. I don't need to mention a thing, darlin'.
Oh puleeeze! Lmao! Now you want us to believe that all of New Orleans chose YOU to be their spokesperson!
