There were news conferences and a high-level phone call between President Barack Obama and House Speaker John Boehner, but no immediate sign of progress on reopening the government a week into a partial shutdown or reaching a deal to avoid the first-ever U.S. default next week.
Obama called Boehner on Tuesday morning, and the White House then announced the president would make a statement and take some questions from reporters at 2 p.m. ET.
Earlier, Boehner demanded that Obama and Democrats negotiate with Republicans on steps needed to end the shutdown that began on October 1 and raise the nation's debt ceiling before the deadline for default on October 17.

Amen to that@banasy.
Americans should thanks their lucky stars that this President has so far resisted enormous and ongoing pressure from Israel& S.Arabia to get us militarily involved with Syria and Iran. The consequences otherwise would be far more catastrophic than Iraq & Afghanistan.
That should be 'thank'.

Liberalism is aental disorder. Liberals are unable to look at the eff re cts their ideas have on American society and understand it's their ideas and policies destroying America. If you suggest that America secure it's border for security purposes a liberal will accuse you of being a war monger, being a racist for hating Mexicans and regurgitate the lie that Mexicans do jobs Americans won't even though you never mentioned Mexicans.

Starting in 2009 the GOP was focused on making the newly elected President fail.
Republican ideas, that President Obama supported, were shot down by Republicans.
It did not mattered to the Republicans how much damage their fail at any cost strategy caused the country, or the American people.
Instead of being a loyal opposition the Republican actions worked to disrupt the economy and cripple the government.
As soon as President Obama won the 2012 election, the GOP had meetings, retreats, conferences in an attempt to redefine the themselves and the party.
What they did not realize then and do not realize now, is that they are defined by their actions, and their actions have been to the detriment of our country.
If you even ask the question of how and why does ObaMe take so many multimillion dollar vacations while America goes bankrupt a liberal will just tell you some dumb stuff about Bush even though Bush is no longer relevant, ObaMe has spent more than twice the amount Bush did trying to "fix" Bush's "screw ups" even though Al Quaeda was decimated when ObaMe took office and Al Quaeda is now stronger than they ever were. Face the facts OBAMA IS THE ABSOLUTE WORST FAILURE IN AMERICAN HISTORY!!!!
Socialists always have someone else to blame for their failures.
“I’m not going to risk the full faith and credit of the federal government.”
-John Boehner, MSNBC, 3/22/2013
MSNBC? Thay's a really credible source!,%%
He said that on there. MSNBC didn't report he said that, he appeared on MSNBC and said it. Note the difference.
And o usually don't use MSNBC as a source because I lump them in the same category as Fox. But unless it was a JB double, he said it.
Having talked incessantly about how useless and destructive government can be, House Republicans are now testifying to their reverence for what government does for veterans, health research, sick children and lovers of national parks, especially war memorials.
John Boehner Refuses To Pass 'Clean' Bill To Avert Shutdown
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) insisted Thursday that the government would not shut down, but he also flatly refused to pass a "clean" spending bill to keep Uncle Sam in business next week when the bank account runs dry.
"I do not see that happening," Boehner told reporters on Capitol Hill after meeting with Republican legislators.
His own words on 9/26/2013 4:58 pm Now tell me again who is at fault.
Why do you people stay in such denial.
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor law and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes you can do these things. Among them are Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or business man and they are stupid!" Republican Dwight Eisenhower, November 8, 1954.
What happened? The Dixiecrats switched.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.
