Marsha Shapiro and Louise Walpin married each other for the third time early Monday. But this time, it was especially memorable: They were among the first to tie the knot after same-sex marriage became legal in New Jersey.
A rabbi first "married" the couple in 1992 in a Jewish ceremony. They married a second time in New York in August 2012 after same-sex marriage became legal there.
The third time was just after midnight Thursday in the Garden State. The couple helped pave the way there through a 2011 lawsuit that brought about the change. New Jersey now becomes the 14th state to recognize gay marriages.

Lol @ banasy, understood. But it wouldnt bother me in the slightest to never have to hear that awful word again. I will never be joined in wedded UNbliss again. Even so i dont control, (nor do i want too) what other people do!
@ Rascal nothing i said was a lie!!
This has nothing to do with atheists. Why would you bring that up? Do you think atheists don't have the right to marry, as well?
You don't want the truth, Rabble. You want to deny a large segment of society marriage equality because you find it distasteful. The truth is that ANYBODY'S marriage impacts you in no way at all. In other words, mind your own business, and let others mind theirs.
ARRRRGGGGHHHH! It's a t h e i s t. (One of my pet peeves. Sorry. Just spell it phonetically!)
Can't wait for the verdict on Super Prop 8. It's a movie shot on my iPhone about angry extraterrestrials who force dudes not to marry dudes.
I don't know of one law that would force dudes to marry dudes. Name it, please?
Prop. Dude
Prop forces you to marry another dude, Jeff? Fascinating.
Your blocking comments is getting very tedious, CNN. Grow up, mmmkay?
@ Rascal, all i can say to you is....don't do those things that you feel strongly about. And whether RIGHT or WRONG you can't FORCE people to believe the way you do nor act the way you want them too. Thats just how it is no matter how much you wish it weren't. And you will just drive yourself nuts trying so its just best to live what you believe to be right and know that one day you will be judged on your OWN behavior not others!
In other words girl...Be all you can be! 😉
Lol i figured you were @ Jeff. But im bettin if we could leave our property to our pets we wouldn't have all the squabling that many ppl have leaving it to their children etc. My dog is a pointer and he really don't like city life much so he would opt out i think lol.
Lol @ rupert, still borded? Go clean your room!
Oops didnt mean borded meant bored!
To be historically accurate, Leviticus was written as a book of rules for Levite priests; are you claiming to be one, RR? To be historically accurate, the currency was altered in 1956 as a reaction to the red scare. To be historically accurate, even the Pledge, written by a Baptist minister, didn't contain "Under God" in it originally; added in 1954 for the same reasons as the currency.
The Tea Party didn't exist until 2009, Andre. Back to class with you.
You go girl! Its amazing that people can underestimate YOUR knowledge even knowing you work in a library and have access to literature of every kind, aint it?
Lol@chrissy; thanks. I get underestimated a lot! You know that saying, "knowledge is power"?
I am also curious as to RR's assertion that marriage isn't an ecclesial matter, when every one of her arguments employs just that.
...marriage existed before the church...
I agree. Many pre-Abrahamic cultures had marriage ceremonies. In fact, most of them did.
