People in the Northwest are digging out from major storms this week. Some are taking advantage of the fresh powder, but winter sports come with risks. When things go wrong, they can go very wrong. Watch these incredible survival stories from athletes who were caught in avalanches.

Snowmobile scare – A group of buddies in Washington State headed out for a fun day on snowmobiles but got a major scare, instead. One man was caught in an avalanche and was unable to move or breathe under the snow. His friend captured the whole thing on his helmet cam.

The people of the Costa Concordia cruise ship disaster

Since the cruise liner Costa Concordia ran aground off the coast of Italy nearly a week ago, each day brings a new twist to the story.  At least 11 people are dead and 21 are missing. The captain was arrested for abandoning the ship as others died. The terrifying passenger accounts of finding lifeboats evoke comparisons to the Titanic. Hear from the people involved in the disaster...

The passenger — Georgia Ananias was one of the last survivors on board. She described the event as “everything you'd see on the Titanic and worse”. One family, thinking they were about to die, asked her to save their child and handed their baby to her. Georgia looked at her husband, thinking it was the end, and returned the child to the family. The former “Golden Girls” star returned to the public eye after a spot in a Snickers commercial that aired during the 2010 Super Bowl. Sometimes the hype for the season’s “it” item can really get over the top. When customers just have to have it, bad behavior can ensue. Check out the chaos that these hot products caused.

Apple attack — Apple’s loyal followers love to have the latest product. In Beijing today, fans braved subzero temperatures to get the iPhone 4S. The store decided not to open in the morning, citing safety concerns over the large crowd. The throng got unruly and even threw rocks and eggs at the store. Police were forced to break up the fray. Apple has now delayed the launch of the 4S in Beijing because of the incident.

Decades ago, the most popular action figures or dolls may have been G.I. Joe and Barbie, but companies are now branching out into ever-broader territory. Today's dolls are based on everyone from a tech company CEO to members of the first family. Not every idea sits well with the public, though. You've Gotta Watch these action figure ideas that fell flat.

Apple action figure — Apple fanatics can now buy an eerily realistic Steve Jobs action figure. This $99 doll from In Icons stands 12 inches tall and is expected to go on sale in February in the U.S. It comes complete with Jobs’ signature black turtleneck and jeans attire. Last year, a different Jobs doll was discontinued after the manufacturer was threatened with legal action.

Noble nuptials — This wedding took place in April, but excitement for this event was high from New Year’s Day. Some people in the states hadn’t been this eager for a royal wedding since Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer in 1981. Move over Lassie, you’ve got some competition. These real-life dogs went to great lengths to save the lives of their owners and other animals alike. Maybe this is why they’ve earned the title of “man’s best friend.” You’ve Gotta Watch these heartwarming videos.

Cats and dogs – Cats and dogs might traditionally be enemies, but one pooch in Iowa rescued two kittens. Several cats were sealed into a “Meow Mix” bag, abandoned on a road, and hit by a car. A dog dragged the bag back to his owner’s house and whined until the owner discovered what was inside. See what became of the felines.

Surfing is already considered an extreme sport, but these riders are taking it to a whole new level. Check out one surfer breaking the world record for riding the largest wave, and others who sought out some unusual surfing spots.

Surf’s way, way up – Surfer Garrett McNamara rode a behemoth wave that is believed to be 90 feet tall. He broke the world record for the largest wave ever ridden. He didn’t realize how big it was at the time, but he says, “by the grace of God I made it through." Watch this unbelievable swell.

Fur coat follies – Police say one woman tried to steal a fur coat by stuffing it into her underwear. She was arrested for shoplifting, but she was in jail for three days before she told cops that she still had the coat on her. In this video, not only do you see her stuff the coat in her panties, but you also see her pull it out for police... three days later!

Gotta Watch: Celeb fairy-tale weddings with unhappy endings

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian filed for divorce Monday from her husband, NBA player Kris Humphries, after just 72 days of marriage. The E! special “Kim’s Fairytale Wedding” that aired on October 9 and 10 (and several days since then) detailed their lavish wedding and drew 10.5 million viewers. The newlyweds are hardly the first celebrities to file for a quick divorce after a huge Hollywood wedding, though. You’ve Gotta Watch these celebrity marriages that ended in divorce.

Kardashian Bash – Kim and Kris threw the Hollywood wedding of the summer this year. It was reportedly a $10 million affair. If you’re wondering who Kim Kardashian is and why she’s famous, you can also check out “Explain it to me: The Kardashians.”
