Eduardo Arellano-Felix, last of 4 brothers in Mexican cartel, gets 15 years in prison

Eduardo Arellano-Felix, the last of four brothers who ran the drug cartel in Mexico known as the Arellano-Felix Organization, was sentenced Monday to 15 years in U.S. federal prison for his role as chief financial officer, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

Arellano-Felix, 56, was sentenced after pleading guilty in May to charges of conspiracy to launder money and to use and invest illicit drug profits.

A medical doctor known as "El Doctor," Arellano-Felix used drug-trafficking proceeds to pay members of the drug cartel to commit crimes, buy firearms, pay bribes and purchase drugs, according to the plea agreement.

Suit filed over corpse in rooftop cistern

Two former guests have filed suit against the Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles, where the body of a 21-year-old woman was found in mid-February in a rooftop water tank.

Steve and Gloria Cott filed suit Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Elisa Lam's decomposing body floated inside a water tank for as long as 19 days while guests used water from it to brushed their teeth, bathe and drink.

The hotel did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

3 relatives killed in shootings at L.A.-area business, home

A shooter gunned down five members of a family, killing three, at the family's Los Angeles-area fire extinguisher business and a nearby home late Wednesday morning, police said.

The gunman is on the loose and is considered to be armed and dangerous, said Downey Police Lt. Dean Mulligan.
