A football fan is in critical condition after falling from an escalator after the New York Giants-Washington Redskins game Sunday, police said.
The 42-year-old man was leaving the stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, after the Giants beat the Redskins 27-23 when he fell over the side of an escalator and landed on a metal stage, said Sgt. Adam Grossman of the New Jersey State Police. It's not clear why he fell and the incident is under investigation.
The man is being treated at Hackensack University Hospital where he was airlifted, Grossman said.
Horrified fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts and to seek details.

In September, a man fell to his death during the Tennessee-North Carolina State football game at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta when he tumbled over a railing, falling to the level below. He landed on another man who suffered minor injuries, a stadium official said.
