Putin announces split with wife

Vladimir Putin's nearly 30-year marriage has ended, the Russian president and his wife told state-run television in a joint interview.

"This was our joint decision. Our marriage is over," Putin told Russia 24, standing next to Lyudmila Putin, in an interview shown Thursday. "We almost don't see each other. We have different lives."

U.N. Security Council signs off on 12,600 peacekeepers for Mali

(CNN) - The U.N. Security Council signed off Thursday on a 12,600-member peacekeeping force in Mali that will be authorized "to use all necessary means" to protect civilians and cultural artifacts. "We know it's going to be a fairly volatile environment," Herve Ladsous, the U.N. undersecretary for peacekeeping operations, said.
The resolution was proposed by France, which deployed about 4,000 troops to Mali in January to drive out Islamist militants who attempted to take control of the country.

Mauritania: Former Gadhafi spy chief extradited to Libya

Mauritania has handed over Libya's former chief of intelligence, returning one the most wanted members of Moammar Gadhafi's fallen regime back to Libya, a spokesman for Mauritania's president confirmed to CNN Wednesday.

Along with being wanted by Libya, Abdullah al-Senussi is wanted by the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity.

Al-Senussi, the late Gadhafi's brother-in-law, was arrested in March at Nouakchott airport in western Mauritania, the Libyan transitional government has said.
